[Review] Logan Lucky (8/10)
Steven Soderbergh is back in fine form after a short four-year retirement. And his first offering, Logan Lucky, shows that Hollywood still has a place for him.
First off, what a great cast. From the main trio of Channing Tatum, Adam Driver and an almost unrecognizable Daniel Craig, to the supporting crew of Seth McFarlane, Riley Keough, Jack Quaid and Brian Gleeson; all of them created fun and entertaining characters that were memorable.
Craig was definitely the stand out here because even without prosthetics, it's his acting that made us forget this was James Bond. And it's this acting that also made me wonder what happened in Spectre.
But also not forgetting the hilarious McFarlane who pulled off an English accent flawlessly. The very first time he opened his mouth, I already knew this was going to be something great.
Soderbergh's direction was what made this movie. He created these characters through the words of an unknown Rebecca Blunt (who may or may not be a fictitious character at this point, according to IMDb). The story and these characters popped, with just enough motivation behind each one.
There were a couple of misdirections, but everything made sense in the end - though I would argue that was a bit unrealistic from the likes of the Logan brothers. They were never presented in that kind of light.
Ocean's Eleven this movie was not. It wasn't about millions. It wasn't sexy. Nor was it slick or glamorous. But it was definitely fun and kept me smiling the whole time.
