So director Gary F. Sandberg was not kidding around when he recently confirmed the release date for DC and Warner Bros. Pictures' previously announced Shazam!; which after having gone into hiatus from movie news, we were not sure if this project is still moving forward.
Especially when there have been reports as well that Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam will not be appearing in Shazam! as the main antagonist; instead he will be getting his own solo movie as well (which every DC character seems to be getting these days).
Sandberg took to his Twitter account to announce that Zachary Levi will be playing Shazam. This brings joy to me because Levi is a fellow geek and he is perfect to play a superhero. And with his comedic timing, he will bring more levity as well to this DC universe.
Levi currently is in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Fandral in the last two Thor movies (he replaced Josh Dallas from the first Thor movie).
Previously announced to be released on 5 April 2018, the month has been confirmed by Sandberg but not the exact date.
