[Review] Table 19 (4/10)
Table 19, marketed as a comedy, but played more like a drama. And that could be its biggest downfall.
Going into the movie with comedy in mind, it started off weird with Anna Kendrick crying and really acting it out. And thinking back now, it probably wasn't meant to be as humorous as I thought it was as she got heart broken all over again.
I would give the first act the "comedy" label, but very quickly in the second act the tone shifted into drama and less laughs to be had. It became more of learning who each character was and the realistic struggles they were going through.
But at the same time, the direction and the storytelling just did not make things interesting onscreen and I was losing interest with each passing scene. All the way to the third act where I just wanted the movie to wrap up and end.
Kendrick and the cast, though, as well as Stephen Merchant whom I seldom like, all did the best they could with the acting here. I thought they were all competently cast, except for Craig Robinson who I had trouble buying being a couple with Lisa Kudrow.
