[Review] Z For Zachariah (7.5/10)

Z For Zachariah, to my understanding, has departed from its source material quite a bit; as the book only has two characters. But with the dynamic between Margot Robbie, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Chris Pine really made this movie.

This was also the first time I saw Robbie really giving a noteworthy performance, The Wolf Of Wall Street notwithstanding. And you could also see why Ejiofor is such a great actor, just that first shot of him taking off the suit, and that expression on his face - it took me by surprise at the level of performance from that first scene.

I would also have nothing but good things to say about Pine, but there was a scene where he snuck up to Robbie's character while she was playing the organ, and then the story never addressed that again. I thought that was a bad introduction to an idea about his character that never followed through.

But the visuals by Tim Orr in this movie was breathtaking. The location where they shot was so beautiful that I did not expect to see. And in its own ways, the movie was quite artistic.

And the way things were left hanging at the end may not give audience a definitive ending, but it was probably the only way the story could have ended; and I did not mind it at all.
