[Review] Battle Of The Sexes (8/10)
Steve Carell gave another exceptional performance as Bobby Riggs, and this time he may have outshone Emma Stone as Billie Jean King in Battle Of The Sexes.
I am very surprised that this movie was not made earlier but it could not have come at a more perfect timing as 2017 ended with a high for the female community, and this movie was released at a very apt time.
To the unbeknownst, one would have thought that Riggs was a real male chauvinist. That may also be true but his ambition was more for entertainment and the thrill of the challenge. And the movie made him more relatable than I thought he would be.
Stone this time was more of a quiet powerhouse. And her relationship with Andrea Riseborough was very also touching.
There were also great performances from (surprisingly) Sarah Silverman, Alan Cumming and Bill Pullman (who is back in good form). The weak link here was Elisabeth Shue, who was very expressionless throughout the movie and was very hard to understand her current mood.
But overall, this was a very good story to tell and also shone a light on how women have struggled behind all the glitter and glamour. A lot of things that I would not have known happened had it not for the magic of movies.
