[Review] Colossal (8.5/10)
This is one of the most refreshing movies of the year. Colossal took risks and chances that you would not have thought of.
Throw in the incredible talent of Anne Hathaway, who has not had such a role for a while now; she elevated the value of this movie as well. But I thought Jason Sudeikis stole the show. This was his best performance to date because when he took that turn, the whole narrative and tone for the movie changed with him; but seamlessly.
The cast also boasted Dan Stevens who seems to have a great agent behind him, picking projects that are daring and fresh and then receiving positive critical receptions. Tim Blake Nelson also added some gravitas, not that the movie needed it.
And towards the end of it, the movie also played out like a superhero movie too. Definitely not the conventional, big budget superhero fanfare that we are used to; but more along the lines of Unbreakable and Chronicle.
Definitely a must watch of last year because it is something quite special.
