[Review] The Greatest Showman (8/10)

Hugh Jackman back at what he loves doing, or so I assumes, musicals. The Greatest Showman yet again showcased the singing and dancing talents of Jackman, and the movie is really good too.

The magic of showbusiness, of marketing and of course, the big top; all captured nicely in this movie. But what really stood out were the songs and choreography of each number. From that opening, to the rooftop with white sheets, to the bar; the composition of the songs were so beautiful and they were both modern yet told the story of that time period.

My only complaint for them was the way that they were produced, the music and accompaniment may be too modern for my liking; but that did not really take away anything from the enjoyment of the scenes.

Jackman was natural. Michelle Williams kept up but I did not think she was completely comfortable acting and singing at the same time. Rebecca Ferguson was exquisitely beautiful and played her role so well.

I would have liked to see more of Zac Efron's character and the relationship his character was supposed to have with Zendaya's, instead of just one number that encapsulated their whole love for each other.

But this was the story about P.T. Barnum, and to that end, from start to finish, there was a complete development for that character. First time director Michael Gracey did such a fantastic job that I foresee he will be very busy in the next few years.

One last thing I would add is that they could have age down Jackman more in his early years because he did not look the younger age that he was portraying. They could have "Tony Starked" him to make the difference in age more compelling.

I'm now left wondering which song the Academy Award would nominate because every single one of them have an equal chance of winning.
