[Review] Lucky (6.5/10)
There is a very high potential that the late Harry Dean Stanton will receive an Academy Award nomination for portraying Lucky.
This movie was all him. And it was a very courageous movie to tell a story that was as quiet as this. This was definitely not for everyone, with a topic subject that not many could relate. And I am definitely not saying I could because you would probably have to live up to a certain age in order to fully understand the character of Lucky and his topic of existentialism.
However, I also felt that at the most important part of Lucky's dialogue in the bar, it fell really short and did not bring in the emotion that it wanted to convey. That was why I was surprised when the other characters had the reaction that they did because I should have felt that way as well.
But Stanton's performance here was stellar and it was very refreshing to have a geriatric lead a whole movie, and made us feel what he felt through his facial expressions. And this was one of the last projects that he worked on before passing, and he definitely went out giving his best.
