[Review] Drinking Buddies (5/10)
Drinking Buddies too way too long to get interesting. Even when it did, it wasn't all that interesting too.
We were introduced to the four leads as their characters. The highlight here was Olivia Wilde who in those couple of years got a lot of attention. Jake Johnson from "New Girl" fame, I felt was still a lot like his character from the TV series. Anna Kendrick did not have much to do in terms of acting. A lot of times she was just there to smile and laugh and look pretty.
But the way Joe Swanberg writes and directs, it is very small scaled and very contained within the characters he introduced. The biggest compliment I can give him is that the story and his characters felt very real. The situations they were in, mostly, also felt like they could happen to anyone in real life.
What I appreciated most here was the that there was a bit of a misdirection. We were made to think the story would go one way and end one way, but it just didn't and it made me feel good in the end. And I ended up like Johnson's character even more after knowing how the movie ended and recalling back the things that his character went through getting there.
