Fox Searchlight Recreates Label, Signs Guillermo Del Toro
As 20th Century Fox is likely to be dissolved in some form or another due to the acquisition by Walt Disney Pictures; one of Fox's movie arm that produces smaller budget but higher quality movies, Fox Searchlight Pictures, is looking to reinvent itself.
With a new name in the works, the label has already look to the future and has signed a deal with this year's Best Director winner, Guillermo del Toro. The studio will continue on with producing movies in the genres of horror, sci-fi and fantasy; and will have del Toro as one of its founding creating minds behind it.
With this deal, del Toro will be curating and producing new movies that will be financed, marketed and distributed by the new label. Del Toro already has a strong working relationship with Fox Searchlight, which has been a strong supporter behind the Academy Award winning movie, The Shape Of Water.
He added in a statement: "For the longest time, I've hoped to find an environment in which I can distribute, nurture and produce new voices in smart, inventive genre films and channel my own. In Fox Searchlight, I've found a real home in live-action production - a partnership based on hardwork, understanding of each other, and above all, faith."
