[Review] All The Money In The World (8/10)
After seeing Christopher Plummer in this role, I no longer can imagine Kevin Spacey doing it. I thought this fit Plummer more as Getty was more to his age during this time period.
But Michelle Williams once again was just the most amazing. She should have had a spot in this year's Oscars but it was just a stacked year.
Ridley Scott seems to be on a nice little roll here. This was another very well directed movie that kept up with the pacing. A great story and very competently told, it really was a good experience to live in that world for two hours.
The scenery, the costume, they really brought out the life of the 70's with Rome as its backdrop. And the constant jump between Getty's mansion to everywhere else gave a nice contrast and view point.
I would have liked to see someone else in Mark Wahlberg's role, not because Wahlberg did not do a good job - which he definitely did. But Wahlberg is very Wahlberg at this point, the way he speaks or puts one hand in his pocket; there wasn't much of a character there.
Scott is never afraid to go dark when he needs to, and he definitely did it here when the scene was called for. The contrast here gave that particular scene a heavier impact and you could feel the tide turned.
One pleasant surprise here was Romain Duris, who played the captor and caretaker of the kidnapped boy. One could argue for a Best Supporting nomination as he really stood out every time he was onscreen.
