This was a nice little reboot to the Ocean franchise, and they stayed away from the mistakes made by the recently rebooted, all-female Ghostbusters.
Straight away, we got to know a bit about Danny Ocean - George Clooney's character; and so we know that this was set in the same universe - which Ghostbusters should have done.
Gary Ross followed the same formula as his predecessor. The chemistry between Bullock and Blanchett was what glued this movie together, much like what Clooney and Brad Pitt did in the first one.
Every one else fitted in very comfortably. And with only seven or eight characters to focus on, unlike 11, it was much more manageable.
However, as nice and sexy as a good heist movie go, there were still loopholes that I could have done without; or some super convenient story plot that was just too convenient.
And I didn't understand or thought it was necessary to give Rihanna all that spotlight when she appeared in a dress. Why was that called for? But I would have to say that Ross directed her very well because she did not stand out like a sore thumb, which I was dreading she would.
Other standouts were definitely Bonham Carter and Kaling who had a little bit more screentime than the rest.
But I believe the girls had a ton of fun making this movie, and that translated well to the audience. Plus I like a good heist movie, and this was a good heist movie; enjoyable enough to overlook some of the flaws in here.
Oh, and Blanchett's wardrobe was simply excellent.
