[Review] Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (6.5/10)

Title - Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Writer - Colin Trevorrow, Derek Connolly
Director - J.A. Bayona
Release - 22 June 2018

The best part of the movie was this scene for this poster.

And one of my favourite scenes from the trailers was the bedroom scene. Unfortunately, that amounted to not much, or just flat out predictable.

There was a lot of potential but none of them seem to be able to "get there". Like when the volcano erupted and the middle portion of that escape looked and felt intense. But at the end of it, watching a lone diplodocus, Bayona could not make me feel much.

And a lot of times I found myself not really worrying what would happen because I could not care for any of these characters that were set up quite well in the first one but now just caricatures. Especially the newcomers too like Toby Jones and Rafe Spall, who were very one note.

Also the new kids, Justice Smith and Daniella Pineda were borderline irritating as they overacted some of times. I just couldn't be bothered to get behind their characters. Newcomer Isabella Sermon fared better, a little nostalgic to the original movie with Ariana Richards and Joseph Mazello.

Still, Pratt came with a million wattage of charisma and is still fun to watch. I liked how even when the dinosaurs left the island, they were still contained to one location; instead of terrorizing a whole state or something in a much grander scale - though I'm sure that will be what the next sequel is about.

Though I don't remember much of The Lost World: Jurassic Park, but maybe that's why I think this sequel is better than that one.
