[Review] Thoroughbreds (6.5/10)
One of my most anticipated movies of the year, but Thoroughbreds did not quite live up to my anticipation.
While the two leads, Olivia Cooke and Anya Taylor Joy, had some of their best acting performances; looking back at the way the movie ended really was a bit of a disappointment.
And this was not because director Cory Finley made the wrong decisions while writing the screenplay, but just that it was more of a personal preference and point-of-view; where I could not get behind Cooke's character in making that decision to finish her drink. Her character arc did not follow a route where that would have been her decision.
Joy's character arc I could get behind without much of a complaint. As for Anton Yelchin, the third name to share the poster credits; I thought I would have seen more of him especially when how he was presented in the trailers.
But he ended up being such a side character that you wouldn't really miss him had his name not appear on posters. Nevertheless, he did give another great performance as expected of his talent.
Still, the first half of the movie I really enjoyed. The humour was always spot on. And the characters were great and portrayed very well. This was a talented cast with a good story, just that it did not go the way I thought it would.
