Sony's The Crow Remake And Silver & Black In Hiatus
Over the weekend, a couple of movies have gone on hiatus mode under Sony Pictures.
The Crow remake which had Jason Momoa attached for quite a long while will not see the light of day anymore. Deadline has reported that Momoa and director Corin Hardy have officially withdrew from the project, which was supposed to start filming in the next five weeks in Budapest.
Davis Films under Samuel Hadida have the rights to the title of The Crow, but was cited as unable to close the deal with Sony.
All these smell fishy because it just does not seem right that the deal was unable to be finalized so close to production date. I'm guessing it's to do with the financial budgetary, and that Hadida is not relenting to allow Sony to dictate the terms.
Next is the Spider-verse property, Silver & Black, which would centre around the Marvel characters Silver Sable and Black Cat, has been delayed indefinitely. The movie was scheduled for 8 February 2019, to be directed by Gina Prince-Bytheweood who also wrote the first draft; however there has been no movement for the project until now.
I think Sony jumped the gun on this one in their attempts to cash-in on the resurgence and success of Spider-Man: Homecoming. But it seems like they could not crack a satisfactory script for the movie, or perhaps they are no longer confident with the finished product of Venom and decided to reevaluate their options.
