[Review] 42 (8/10)

I can't believe that this film is not more well-known than it is. This was such a great discovery for me because it showed the best of a Hollywood veteran and an up-and-coming star - before he became Black Panther.

I believe this was Chadwick Boseman's best performance he has ever done. I believed in this character as he seemed most at ease and natural here.

And as for Harrison Ford, I haven't seen him acted as much as he did here. He delved into a character like I have never seen him do before in the last decade, so this was a joy to watch.

A baseball legend, Jackie Robinson's story was an inspirational one. Take away his talent, take away all the embellishments of this particular version of the story; his rise to fame through hardship, prejudice and discrimination from racism was a story I didn't know I wanted to see.

And there was also a great Alan Tudyk moment that only Alan Tudyk could pull off. That scene where he was just shooting off his mouth was funnier if you knew who Tudyk is - because he is such a genuine nice guy with a great sense of humour, and to see the foul language he spewed made that moment one of the best in the movie.

Brian Helgeland doesn't direct as much as he write, but this was a very good effort on both fronts.

I cannot recommend this movie enough. It was a great historical moment, a great sports movie, and a great fight against racism.
