[Review] Before I Fall (6/10)
If you could sit through the first two acts of this movie, the final act was actually worth the wait.
Zoey Deutch is a competent actor. She managed to carry the movie because she was in every scene and she never once dropped the ball.
But the first hour was very uninspired because it took a concept that was very familiar and done much better in Groundhog Day, more interesting in the recent Happy Death Day; and this one failed in comparison. Had it come out before the latter, maybe it would have fared better. But there were a couple of times I lost interest and was just waiting for it to end.
But in hind sight, I'm glad I stuck with it because the best part of the movie was the moment when she realized what she needed to do (like all movies about the same concept). And the director, Ry Russo-Young, managed to create a scene where the message came through loud and clear.
It was about being your best self in every moment, being present in every moment, and appreciate everything that you already have. It's about living the best life so that the memories you created are worth looking back at. It's like writing a book about your life, and making sure that book is worth reading. It's about living a life that is meaningful, otherwise there is no point living it.
It's a great reminder to everyone that the action that we do every day of our lives matter, not just to us but to the people around us. And that was where the movie won me back.
But then again, I have a feeling the book by Lauren Oliver could be better than the movie.
