The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Billy Dee Williams will return as Lando Calrissian in the next installment of Star Wars.
Whether or not his role will be an extensive one remains to be seen, though fans have been expecting him to return since The Force Awakens and that has not materialized, not even in The Last Jedi.
In order to wrap up the Skywalker storyline properly I think we need to know where Lando is and what he has been up to all these years. But as far as the story goes, it is not necessary for Lando to return in this trilogy at this point. It would have made more sense when we still had Han, Leia and even Luke. But now it is a little pointless.
