[Review] The Handmaiden (7/10)
Park Chan Wook delivers yet another tale of seduction, deception and betrayal.
The story was well crafted and well presented as usual. However, in the first half I could not see where the story was actually going and thought that it was going nowhere. But once we got to the second part, as labelled in the movie, everything became clear and that was when I realized there was going to be more than one layer to the story - in true Park style.
The cast was very strong, led by two strong performances from the actresses. It also boasted the talent of Ha Jung Woo who is now more well-known for his roles in Along With The Gods franchise.
Park had a lot of artistic shots here that saw beautiful scenery in nature. There were parts that were too slow unfortunately, but Park does take his time with his storytelling. Still, this felt epic by the end of the movie and it was very satisfying.
