[Review] The Skeleton Twins (5/10)

After The Skeleton Twins, Craig Johnson has gone on to do Wilson with Academy Award-level actors and that turned out very well.

For this, Johnson also made a great decision putting Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader together, with Hader giving a softer rendition of his "Stefon" character from "SNL".

Their chemistry worked very well for the movie and it was very easy to believe they haven't seen each other for the last decade or so, and then tried to pick up where they left off.

However, the movie suffered from a very slow pace throughout the second act with a dreaded musical montage representing the lowest point and cliched sequence for a movie of such genre. I know this was released four years ago but have we moved past this type of movie-making?

As for the story itself, it was well-written and a dissection of a two flawed characters that shared more parallels than they realize. Very good performances all around including Ty Burrell, Boyd Holbrook, Luke Wilson and a small scene from Kathleen Rose Perkins. And I just noticed that this dramatic movie was filled with comedic actors.

But Hader stole the spotlight even from Wiig as she sometimes still appeared as "acting" instead of being the character.
