[Review] The Spy Who Dumped Me (4.5/10)

Title - The Spy Who Dumped Me
Studio - Lionsgate
Starring - Mila Kunis, Kate McKinnon, Justin Theroux, Sam Heughan, Gillian Anderson
Writer - Sussana Fogel, David Iserson
Director - Sussana Hogel
Release - 3 August 2018

Kate McKinnon is such a beast on her own. She can make you laugh in any situation and she has a few great one-liners here as well. My favourite one would probably be when she had a huge crush on Gillian Anderson's character and she said something along the lines of from respect it has gone full circle to become objectifying.

But other than that, this was really a fluff piece. What I did not like was the dumbing down of Sam Heughan's character because, as a spy proper, he should have looked smarter than he was. It was not necessary to dumb him down that much to a point where it was just distracting.

Other characters like Ivanna Sakhno and Hassan Minhaj did not work.

Kunis worked in this role, and the chemistry between her and McKinnon was also what made the movie worked. Other than that, the plot points were stretched to their limits just to move the story forward.

This was another one of those switch-off-your-brain-type of movie that, if you do, it possibly can entertain.
