Dark Phoenix And Alita: Battle Angel Delayed... Again

Immediately after the release of the first trailer for Dark Phoenix, 20th Century Fox decides to push the release date once again.

This comes with the news that Fox is re-releasing Deadpool 2 but in PG rating - a move that could only be Walt Disney Pictures wanting to test out how well the movie will do in a kid-friendly environment before making future Deadpool movies. This will not be a wise move if it is true because fans will revolt (on the internet) if the next installment is watered down.

However, there is also another possibility where Fox just wants to earn more money with one of their biggest franchises before handing it over to Disney.

Still, the cost of this is taking the 21 December 2018 release date of Alita: Battle Angel and pushing it back to 14 February 2019 - which was the release date of Dark Phoenix.

Dark Phoenix will now be out on 7 June 2019. There are two reasons for this in my mind. One, the number of views on the Fox YouTube page for the trailer has been encouraging and the studio are feeling confident that this franchise is still relevant and could stand on its own in the summer period. Also meaning that the film is actually good in order to have some legs in a time when there are blockbusters opening left and right.

Two, according to Deadline, the trailer has garnered over 44 million views online in China alone. Hence, pushing the date to a summer blockbuster period could help the studio earn more profit in China.

As for Alita: Battle Angel, according to Deadline again, the studio is gunning for it to open during Chinese New Year and has nothing to do with post production issue. As it stands, the movie is in "tip-top VFX shape".
