[Review] Our Brand Is Crisis (6/10)

David Gordon Green does not have a good track record. The recent Halloween was rubbish; and before that, he had Stronger and Our Brand Is Crisis. Both of these had good potential and verging on being great but Green just could not finish strong.

With such a strong cast in Sandra Bullock, Billy Bob Thornton, Anthony Mackie, Joaquim de Almeida, Ann Dowd and Scoot McNairy; there was no way the actors would not deliver.

The first half was a great buildup of getting to know Bullock's character and slowly realizing what she was capable of. But then in the second half, instead of focusing on the rivalry between Bullock and Thornton, Green chose to waste time with a musical montage and have Bullock's character act like a child and hurl eggs at Thornton's hotel room.

The biggest crime, however, was the big climax in revealing who was going to win the presidential race, we saw no tension nor suspense. It was just a dud reveal. It almost made me mad to have invested in the movie with so little payoff.

And that final scene where Bullock and we the audience were supposed to take home a message, it just wasn't a strong one to be worthwhile.
