This was a really good follow-up to the original movie, which I still think got snubbed for Best Animated Movie just because Brave came from the Pixar camp and had an automatic advantage. Clearly Wreck-It Ralph was the best that year.
And that whole team of creators came back and delivered a sequel that is worthy of Best Animated Movie once again, unless Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse comes out swinging.
Two big reasons why this franchise worked so well was John C. Reilly and (I'm still surprised by this) Sarah Silverman. She made her character so adorable and lovable that you can't help but see it from her point of view.
Taraji P. Henson and Alan Tudyk were great additions as their voice acting stood out among the rest. Gal Gadot took me out of the movie quite a few times.
But the two best sequences of the movie happened when the Disney Princesses showed up. Their dialogue was the best because of all the references, and you could never count out that nostalgia of Disney magic which will always hit you straight in the heart. Well, every Princess except Merida from Brave, and Tiana from The Princess And The Frog - which was just a badly made Disney animated movie.
Once again the story packs a lot of heart. Once again it came down the the friendship between the two leads and they will tug at your heartstrings (the cuteness of Vanellope was already half the battle won).
However, as great as this movie was, I found myself with zero desire to want to go back into this movie again. The rewatchable value seemed very weak, safe for the Princesses sequences.
Still, this so far is this year's best animated movie by far.
