[Review] Happy Death Day 2U (7.5/10)

Title - Happy Death Day 2U
Studio - Universal Pictures, Blumhouse Productions
Starring - Jessica Rothe, Israel Broussard, Phi Vu, Suraj Sharma, Ruby Modine
Writer - Christopher Landon
Director - Christopher Landon
Release - 14 February 2019

So the trailers have not been the best representation of the potential of the movie and I am happy to report that I was once again pleasantly surprised at the quality of the sequel.

Jessica Rothe once again carried the movie competently and showed a lot of heart when it came to the family stuff, which was one of the most touching scenes that was well written and delivered by Christopher Landon (even though there really wasn't anything original here).

There were a lot of scientific mumbo-jumbo thrown in this time; and while they may or may not actually make sense (most probably not), they did not detract from the fun of the story and were breezed through as quickly as they can.

The pacing once again was very consistent throughout. Christopher Landon knew not to slow things down with expositions or explanations, especially when the audience already knew what's going on so there was no point to have to explain things; even when convincing new characters to the phenomenon.

As for Rothe's character's motivation in the third act, I found that quite weak as she had to make a choice between two worlds. One world did have a more compelling reason to stay, but she chose the other for the wrong reason.

Other than that, it was really a fun ride with a good cast and a story that you could get behind. There will probably be a third movie only because these are so cheap to make.
