[Review] Fighting With My Family (8.5/10)
Title - Fighting With My Family
Studio - Metro Goldwyn Mayer
Starring - Florence Pugh, Dwayne Johnson, Nick Frost, Lena Headey, Jack Lowden, Vince Vaughn
Writer - Stephen Merchant
Director - Stephen Merchant
Release - 14 February 2019
A surprisingly great movie directed by Stephen Merchant, who also appeared briefly and subtly, I might add.
Florence Pugh carried the movie really well, with a great supporting cast in Nick Frost, Lena Headey and Vince Vaughn. And Dwayne Johnson provided some levity whenever he was onscreen.
Merchant's writing also shone through brightly, especially the humour and lines which Vaughn delivered only the way he could. But the comedy throughout the movie was actually refreshing, even though not entirely original, but because it was really well written in.
The only points that I didn't agree with Merchant would be the training montage where someone like Pugh's character couldn't beat out fellow trainees that didn't grow up with sports.
And the end fight which, though looked exciting and well choreographed; but the tone of it felt forced because we all know everything that happened in the ring was fixed - a term used to describe wrestling in the movie itself.
But there was a lot of heart, with a great story that's engaging and also inspiring; and of course, came with that feel good ending.
