[Review] Missing Link (6.5/10)
Title - Missing Link
Studio - LAIKA, Annapurna Pictures
Starring - Zach Galifianakis, Hugh Jackman, Zoe Saldana, Emma Thompson, Stephen Fry, Timothy Olyphant, Matt Lucas
Writer - Chris Butler
Director - Chris Butler
Release - 19 April 2019
This would be LAIKA's weaker release as far as I can remember. Not that it wasn't a good movie or story, but it was just missing something... and I'm guessing it's Travis Knight's touch as the lead animator.
The pacing was a little too slow in the first two acts. And there seemed to be too little in the dialogue to make us care more for the characters. Perhaps a little too clean and efficient in the delivery, but probably to cut down the work on animating the clay.
The third act was the most satisfying with a good message that came in the form of humour, "Those we want to keep out are trying to leave." - Not in verbatim, probably.
Also, the humour was very effective throughout. It kept the movie engaging especially when there was not much else happening in terms of layers in the characters and plot.
Still, it was a good enough watch to be entertaining. Just not up there with the rest of LAIKA's production.
