[Review] Borg / McEnroe (8.5/10)
If you have lived through that era, this could be very nostalgic. I was way too young then, but I do remember John McEnroe and his infamy.
The Good:
- Director Janus Metz has done a wonderful job pacing this movie. Also, with showing the psychological struggle that Bjorn Borg had; beginning with his struggle in his teens and the start of his career. Without dialogue, and when the camera just stayed on Sverrir Gudnason's face, you would always know what he was thinking.
- Both Gudnason and Shia LaBeouf were brilliant in their roles. Their polar opposite personalities played out so well, especially when they were facing each other on court. And Stellan Skarsgard added a lot to the acting department.
The Bad:
- There was no way to properly capture the sparring sessions whenever they were on court, other than using as much editing as possible.
- I would have liked to see more of the "present" in the movie than the many jumping back and forth to the past.
Conclusion:
This movie should have had more accolades, but it felt like no one saw this.
