[Review] Brick (6/10)
Rian Johnson's first full feature movie, and he also wrote it.
Pros:
- A detective story set in highschool that had the dialogue as a throwback to the old Hollywood detective stories. (Although I could be wrong, having not lived through that era.)
- It has very good direction and a way to tell the story with a very small budget.
- The mystery was kept right until the end and it was a cool indie.
Cons:
- The audio (when I watched it) was a bit soft when the actors were speaking softly, and too loud when they were loud. I believe this was due to the small budget that everything from camera to microphone were all very basic.
- There was a corpse that was just lying around for a few days and how has it not started to smell? This is an example of the details that I wished Johnson would have taken more care.
- The characters were set as teenagers in school, but their actions sometimes were more adult than could be realistic.
Conclusion:
It's nice to see where Johnson started from, before he went all big budget.
