[Review] The House That Jack Built (5.5/10)
Title - The House That Jack Built
Studio - IFC Films
Starring - Matt Dillon, Uma Thurman, Siobhan Fallon Hogan, Sofie Grabol, Riley Keough, Bruno Ganz
Writer - Lars von Trier, Jenle Hallund
Director - Lars von Trier
Release - 2018
Not a fan of Lars von Trier but thought I gave this a try.
The Good:
- Matt Dillon's performance was scary good.
- Dillon's character's dialogue with Bruno Ganz's was very interesting and drove the psychological part of the movie.
- The last half hour was probably the best part of the movie, with the journey down into hell being quite interesting. It just took way too long to get to this part.
- The house was a scary sight!
The Bad:
- This movie was probably 45 minutes too long. There were so many parts I would have cut, especially with the used-footage bits that didn't add much in my opinion to the tone of the movie.
- The gore part felt like there weren't enough practical effects money for it. But then again I also felt it didn't need any at all; so when there were gore, I shrunk away.
