[Review] Phantom Thread (6/10)

Title - Phantom Thread
Studio - Focus Features
Starring - Daniel Day-Lewis, Vicky Krieps, Lesley Manville
Writer - Paul Thomas Anderson
Director - Paul Thomas Anderson
Release - 25 December 2017

This can't be the swan song of the greatest actor of our time... but it is.

The Good:

- Daniel Day-Lewis once again didn't disappoint. And under Paul Thomas Anderson's direction, there seemed to be another layer of performance that he was able to deliver.

- Krieps is a new face that I have never seen before but in this movie, she and her character really grew on me. And Manville's performance was great too.

- Anderson's shots of tailoring were beautiful and captivating, and made me interested in those scenes where there was nothing happening except for fabric being worked on.

The Bad:

- I couldn't understand the characters, their motivations and their intentions. I didn't get what Krieps' character wanted, was it revenge or to hurt. I didn't get Day-Lewis' character for staying with her even after knowing what she did.

- The movie was very slow, and almost felt like not worth it to sit through.
