Writer - Jez Butterworth, John-Henry Butterworth, Jason Keller
Director - James Mangold

James Mangold has impressed me to no end with this movie. And I have to believe his job was slightly easier because he had Damon and Bale to work with.

Damon and Bale will be getting Oscar nominations come February next year, that is without a doubt. But I am very interested to see who else from this cast will get the best supporting role, or if they do get it. There are three actors I would put up for consideration and they are Jon Bernthal, Josh Lucas and Tracy Letts.

Bernthal had a small role, but he was so good in every frame. Lucas has created such a villain that I just can't stop but hate him even now. And Letts cry beside Damon inside the car is a scene I won't forget any time soon.

But all that were also because Mangold created those scenes for the actors to work in. The only thing I would fault him was the relationship between Bale and Jupe. I never believed they were father and son throughout the movie, even when the two actors had a personal scene together - so much so that I thought that whole scene was very unnecessary.

In the end, it was the heart of the story. The relationship between Damon's character with Bale's, and the growth in their friendship and in their character arc, that really pulled at the heartstrings.
