Once in a while, Netflix comes up with something amazing and beautiful. This year, it is The King.
And the brilliance in the casting director, getting the French to play the English king, and the English Pattinson to play the French prince. But even when Pattinson had minutes in the movie, his impact was felt throughout the second half. Much like Mendelsohn in the first act.
Edgerton is really becoming a great writer in this business. But I believe it's Michod who made the movie great with brilliant pacing. This movie was long, over two hours, but it didn't feel that long.
However, I did feel Edgerton might have made a mistake casting himself in this role, which I thought could have been better under someone with more age and looked more heavy with war.
But every scene felt necessary because it moved the movie along. Every dialogue was important, building up to the war.
The ending, or the small reveal, was telegraphed from a mile away; but it wasn't build to be a twist. I thought it was more about how the actors played their parts in that, another important dialogue.
I really enjoyed this movie and could watch it again.
