[Review] Where'd You Go, Bernadette (6/10)
Title - Where'd You Go, Bernadette
Studio - Annapurna Pictures
Starring - Cate Blanchett, Billy Crudup, Kristen Wiig, Laurence Fishburne, Judy Greer, Steve Zahn, Emma Nelson, Zoe Chao
Writer - Richard Linklater, Holly Gent, Vince Palmo
Director - Richard Linklater
Release - 22 March 2019
This fell into the usual trope of a strong first and second act, only to be undone by the nonsensical third act where everything just fell into place for convenience sake.
The difference in terms of plot convenience between this and Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker was that the latter had those in the middle of the movie, not the end when everything should have come together.
The performance by Blanchett once again was the biggest selling point for the movie as she disappeared again into the role, although not one that was so dissimilar that we have never seen her do before. Good supporting cast in Wiig who provided some levity and also someone for the audience to despise.
The pacing of this movie was surprisingly well done as I didn't feel like it was dragging in any parts.
But I have to say Richard Linklater movies are not easy to really like, or I haven't seen one in recent years that I enjoy in its entirety even though they are engaging in the sense that they deal with human nature very closely to the truth.
Oh, and after watching it, this poster is terrible.
