Here's another proof that the "Groundhog Day" concept is still relevant when done well with heart, like Happy Death Day and Live Die Repeat.
Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti has great chemistry to keep us invested throughout the movie, with Samberg bringing a lot of the physical comedy but also, a very subtle performance - very unlike Samberg and turning him into a leading man in movies. But when he turned it on, he brought the house down. There's a clip in the beginning when he first "met" Milioti's character that I can rewatch over and over.
J.K. Simmons is another great and funny addition to the cast, and it's great to see Peter Gallagher back in a rom-com.
And again like Groundhog Day, there's a lot of heart in the story to end the movie that will make you feel great. But what I'm trying to say is, this movie is done very well.
It's already August, I think it's safe to say, give Samberg an Oscar nomination now!
