Netflix has very surprisingly given us numerous Oscar contending movies this year (not sure if it's because the other studios aren't releasing their movies yet), and I am impressed.

This movie leaned heavily on it's supporting cast. There were two stories here that was separated at first before coming together, and we weren't sure at first how they were connected until the slow-burn built. And at first, I was afraid characters played by Kyle Chandler and Demian Bichir would be throwaway characters, but later as the drama intensified, we got fantastic performances from everyone.

This was also the firs time I see Bichir giving some real acting, dramatic chops. There's a reason he keeps getting work in Hollywood and I really enjoyed him this time.

George Clooney apparently enjoys going to space. This movie reminded me a little of Gravity, though this one more of a science-fiction. Perhaps the scene with the trouble in space was borrowed from Gravity, I wouldn't be surprised.

There's something to be said about how the movie came together in the end, and found myself feeling that sense of longing for the characters; and that's credit to Clooney as a director here.

I'm not sure if the movie will pick up any acting nominations, but with slim pickings, it could go for the Best Picture / Best Director combo.
