Outside of Netflix, this movie may not have been greenlit just because of the concept that isn't widely cared for. And sometimes that is the beauty of Netflix.
The theme about robots and morality and sacrifice, it's not easily grasped the way all these were presented, and that could be the issue of the writing or the directing as I found both to be lacking somewhat. Some of the lines were not good and not easily understood; while some scenes were not well directed.
The action sequences also fluctuated between competent and amateurish. But the final showdown between Anthony Mackie's character and Pilou Asbaek's character was clearly on the competent side.
Unfortunately, Damson Idris was not great to watch, he was lacking in conveying the right emotion from his acting. But those playing opposite him, the likes of Anthony Mackie, Emily Beecham and Michael Kelly, helped carried those scenes; until he was alone again, so he wasn't a good casting choice.
Most of all, though, what I found most interesting and compelling by the end of the movie was seeing a theme that isn't a popular choice, which was showing America as the cause of a lot of hardships on the rest of the world in the name of "peacekeeping". And I loved it when the camera focused on the confused and perplexed face of Damson Idris as this became factual to him.
