I have not seen a movie that is this moody in many years. And it was definitely refreshing, and also reminded me of the mood and images while reading Haruki Murakami's Dance Dance Dance.
Alexandra Daddario has done a beautiful job of creating this character. But at the same time, it was so painful to watch as she dragged her feet along the movie just doing what she does, escaping her reality and wanting to feel something else other than her own existence.
William Olsson's choice of shooting this in certain locales in Japan added so much into the tone and mood of the story. Just seeing how small certain doors were gave so much into the visuals, even more so if you have been to Japan.
But then again, it wasn't like the performance of a lifetime for any of the cast member. And it wasn't like the best story out there that is memorable. However, it does evoke some feelings in you that will stay with you for at least a little while.
