[Review] The Power Of The Dog (6.5/10)

Title - The Power Of The Dog

Starring - Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, Kodi Smit-McPhee
Writer - Jane Campion
Director - Jane Campion
Release - 1 December 2021

I'm not one to shy away from a slow-burn story. I have a lot of patience. If I need to sit through the first two acts of slow burn just to build up the final act, no problem.

The Power Of The Dog wasn't that for me. Throughout the whole thing, I kept asking where was this story going because it didn't seem like it had a direction.

And that's a pity because there were really great performances from the four main cast. And I'm a huge fan of Benedict Cumberbatch and Jesse Plemons. Especially Cumberbatch who may have just given his best performance to date; sadly it wasn't something I enjoyed.

On director's front, Jane Campion had some "mood" scenes that I thought were very unnecessary and the pacing could have sped up a whole lot more. But she directed her cast to great results.

Critics are loving this movie but, strange, I'm just not seeing it.
