[Review] The Green Knight (5/10)

Starring - Dev Patel, Alicia Vikander, Sean Harris, Joel Edgerton, Sarita Choudhury, Kate Dickie
Writer - David Lowery
Director - David Lowery
Release - 30 July 2021

Apparently this movie was based off of a poem, and then expanded to become a feature length film.

There were so much in this movie that were left for the viewer's interpretation, so much so that everyone could come out of it with their own point of view on the symbolisms presented.

And this really depended on each individual's preference on whether or not what they interpreted was meaningful and made sense. Personally, there was just too much uncertainties and symbols that were left to the imagination of the viewer that it was just not for me. I prefer to be taken on a journey where there is a fixed path, even if the path is winding.

But I thought the setup in the first act was brilliant. The introduction of the Green Knight and the game, and the mistake of the protagonist because of his insecurities and desires. However, starting with the second act; everything that came, every new character that appeared, were symbolisms and causes confusion to the narrative.

Still, the cast acted great and were enjoyable, and some shots by David Lowery were beautiful. And I understand Lowery's vision, just that this outing was not for me.
