The problem with Uncharted wasn't because it was not fun, but it was not clever enough. Probably every other similar type of movies that came before like the National Treasure franchise or the Robert Langdon movies had more to offer in the process of following trails and clues.
Uncharted took unnecessary leaps forward in that process. Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg's characters didn't look clever as they figure things out. Instead, the writing was just lazy and dated, offering nothing new to the genre other than the CGI.
An example of lazy writing. The main characters displayed skills to pilfer and lift items off individuals. But while the movie tried to be clever, the "lift" didn't even looked plausible.
But the CGI and the set pieces looked good. Scenes of Holland's character falling out of the plane was exciting enough, the final locale was beautiful, and the twin ships was a nice touch. Holland was great to watch with enough charisma to spare (just maybe still not the Nathan Drake we have in mind).
As for the other cast members; Antonio Banderas was a waste here. The story should have centered around him as the main antagonist. Sophia Ali and Tati Gabrielle's characters were familiar tropes that added no dimensions or layers to the story.
Considering how long it took this movie to get made, how disappointing that this was what we get in the end. Another video game movie that failed to impress.
