Simon Kinberg, a really good producer in Hollywood, really has some pull in the industry. His direction for Dark Phoenix was just satisfactory, but this being his second movie, he has managed to get a really good cast.
Granted, Jessica Chastain probably had a lot to do about that as well. The strong cast really came to play, even though the script was one of the weakest parts with dialogue that barely made sense trying to explain expositions.
But this movie also saw Sebastian Stan as a really good actor. His character didn't come with any surprises but he gave in more effort than his character deserved.
I'm surprised, though, that they kept Fan Bing Bing in this movie because she wasn't able to film on location with the rest of the cast. Doing a bit of research, Fan was superimposed into another actress who was actually on set, hence her posture was not consistent. Fan has a much straighter back when standing. It would have been much cheaper to recast. But, again, Kinberg has some really good pull and maybe also maintaining his good relationship with Fan. Hence, maintaining his good pull in the industry.
