James Cameron has the legitimacy to shit on Avengers as much as he wants. He wasn't kidding when he said the achievement in CGI done for Thanos was nowhere near Avatar, and he was right.
The Way Of Water has taken the first movie and improved in every way, in every aspect. The characters were more focused, the story was more original, and the CGI was just in another class of its own. Once again, Cameron is leading the industry in movie-making. And this could be a movie that reaches two billion dollars worldwide.
I haven't had the chance to watch this on IMAX, or 3D for that matter; but even watching on a normal screen I was fully immersed already in its graphical achievement when creating Pandora - what more if it was 3D IMAX.
Yes, the movie definitely was long. But it didn't feel that long even though you know you've sat down in that seat for far longer than other movies.
There was a couple of things for me to complain about. I would have liked to see more of Kate Winslet's character as she was interesting and had an imposing presence, but too little screen time. And I wished there was a new and younger actress to voice Sigourney Weaver's character because every time she was talking I was pulled out of the movie. It was weird to hear Weaver's voice on a teenager, who had a major role, too.
Also I thought there just wasn't enough of Jack Champion's character throughout the movie. Certain decisions he made were not clear enough as he was new and we needed more character development here.
But Zoe Saldana's mo-cap was just great. Her pain and anguish always came through and it was all down to her performance. There definitely were much more expression on her features than, say, a Thanos.
Once again, the world of Pandora looked real and beautiful. If it wasn't for the long runtime, I would definitely rush out to watch it again.
