On the 12th minute watching Cate Blanchett play Lydia Tar, I was thinking, "Give her the Oscar right now!" Even though there are still a couple more films that I have yet to see, I really don't think there will be another female performance that can top Blanchett this year.

This was a powerhouse performance. It must be so easy to direct when you have Blanchett. In that scene where Sophie Kauer's performance was playing Lydia's piano, we only see Lydia's silhouette in the distance. Even then, Blanchett's power just drew my eyes to her, her body gesture made a movement and I knew already what she was feeling.

Unfortunately I didn't really like how the way the movie ended. True, based on true events, that was how it had to end. But I just thought the movie plateaued in its whole third act.

But I thought there was also a brave scene of how Lydia destroyed a snowflake of a student. It's, again, logic versus emotion - something that today's world have to deal with and more likely than not, no one is fully equipped on how to.
