I was quite taken by how well the pacing and style of this movie was. Right from the start, we jumped right in to the world of who Taron Egerton's character was, and the edits left no fats in each scene so the story was grabbing your attention.
Egerton's performance as well carried the movie, and surrounded by great characters from a great cast; though most of them were of one note - like Igor Grabuzov, Toby Jones, Anthony Boyle and Roger Allam. Nikita Efremov as the Tetris creator had more of an arc; though I would have liked to see more of his friendship develop with Egerton's.
The cracks in the story finally let the flood in starting from the third act. Just from a capitalist point of view that Igor Grabuzov's antagonist should have had more control of Egerton's movement inside Moscow. Gabuzov's character had a room of people (supposedly) working for him, so delaying a plane or just even stopping Egerton's character at immigration should have been so easy.
The third act also had a car chase scene that I didn't think was necessary in a movie that should have been more of a political and dialogue infused thriller.
But the movie was actually really well made and well directed by Jon S. Baird, and I am very surprised that it didn't go to the cinemas first.
