I will admit that this started off very shaky as the film set up the story. But once we got going, it was such a great ride.

Colin Farrell once again disappeared into a role. His mannerisms completely new to me, and just by putting on a pair of glasses with a properly combed set of hair, he presented another side of him that I've never seen before.

Viggo Mortensen also delivered another great performance here, as were all the other supporting cast that came in. There wasn't much emotional acting, they were quite standard stuff. But Ron Howard is such a master at creating atmosphere filled with drama that hooked me in the entire second and third act.

Also, if this really was how things unfolded during the rescue, it was astonishing and informative. I don't think the detail of how the boys were brought out were shouted out in the news at that time. That's why it was so thrilling to just be watching these characters figure out the best way possible to save them.

The movie worked as well as it did was solely due to Howard's direction. Mortensen, Farrell, Joel Edgerton, Tom Bateman and Paul Gleeson all looked like legit divers. I really appreciated how Farrell will always clear his mask before putting it on. Every thing under water was shot perfectly to depict how those dives would feel like.

And when we knew that one of the divers was about to meet his demise, I could feel that tension of being underwater with nowhere to go because he was stuck in the middle of the cave with oxygen running out.

A very well done movie that should have had a wide release all over the world. Instead it ended up on Amazon Prime Video, we were robbed of a great movie outing.
