The way the script was written for a horror or exorcism movie was nothing new. But compared to another horror that I just saw, Evil Dead Rise, a completely different type of horror, this was such a pleasure to watch. Because this was story driven.

And Russell Crowe can do no wrong in front of the camera. He gave his character so much personality and made him three-dimensional, with a sense of humour and just an all-round bad-ass. The only I would like to question is if he really rode his scooter from Rome all the way to Spain. Because how else would he still have his scooter in Spain?

And in these horror movies they usually don't show the audience how long it took for the real help to arrive and how the "haunted" family was coping before that. Same as with this, but I'm glad we were able to skip the "denial" part of the parent and just jump forward to what we really wanted to see, Crowe in action.

That did not disappoint, although then we proceeded to learn a little about Father Amorth's history and his failure at a previous case - nothing new.

The story also properly setup for a next instalment, which I really would not be opposed to; but this wasn't even close to The Conjuring in quality that I really don't think it would happen.
