The sequel is better than the original, a very exclusive club and rare to happen. But then again, Extraction was not a high bar to hop over in the first place.
Where the sequel did right was recognizing what it was - a full-blown, intense actioner. The original failed because it tried to include some plot twist that ended up being more trite than clever.
Chris Hemsworth is an action star. In an earlier time, he would have stood toe-to-toe with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone; but movie stars aren't made anymore today so Hemsworth is signed to Netflix for who-knows how many movies or years.
Sam Hargrave directed some insane sequences for this movie - action sequences that didn't let up for over 10 or 15 minutes. The prison break had such a long, uncut (or probably CGI-stitched) sequence that had intensity rivaling John Wick 4 for the best action scenes of the year.
Unfortunately, or fortunately for itself, it's not too heavy in plot. A very straight forward, turn-off-your-brain story that can be enjoyed sitting in front of your TV.
Also, with more budget this time around, Idris Elba and Olga Kurylenko were brought in to support the cast with some better acting.
