This instalment of a M:I movie was a little weird for me. Somewhere in the beginning of the third act, it was like an open casting to join Tom Cruise's crew. One after another, it felt like the characters suddenly saw God in the form of Ethan Hunt and wanted to follow him.
Another weird thing was the story which just never gelled properly for me. The way the antagonist wanted Ethan to choose like Batman in The Dark Knight, that was weird because when I put myself in Ethan's shoes, the choice was very clear.
Instead, as that subplot came to its conclusion, it never sat well with me because the character progression just was not there to manifest that kind of feelings for Ethan.
And if they bring back one character in Part Two, or even in future instalments, I think that will be a major cop out that's comparable to the Fast franchise.
Still, the action sequences were a step up from the previous movie. The third act train sequence was incredible. There were two times the audio went silent deliberately to emphasize on the visuals, both times I reacted audibly to them.
Hayley Atwell was another incredible factor in this instalment. She owned all her scenes, especially going toe-to-toe with Cruise and even pulling attention away from him. Atwell is a legit action star after this, and this is probably her best role by far.
Even though the story felt rushed, I am still very interested to see how this story ends with the next part.
