Bradley Cooper was spectacular in this movie. He turned himself into a conductor and actually performed it (whether or not if that was a real orchestral performance as well is beside the point), and it was like a whole piece that he just did it as if he it was real. Astounding performance.
Sometimes life is just unfair. Cooper, good looking and did mostly comedy, and decided to jump into writing and directing with A Star Is Born and crushed it. Now, his second movie, and he has crushed it again. A shoo-in for the Oscars, for sure.
Carey Mulligan is also just one of the finest actresses right now in the business. Though not her best, but still quite an achievement here under the direction of Cooper. There should be a good chance for her to get a nomination as well.
However, nobody else stood out in this movie. And they were actually quite forgettable. Even Matt Bomer, whose name came in third (instead of Sarah Silverman); barely had any scenes after the first 15 minutes.
Still, as a movie, it looked so beautiful in that black-and-white before transitioning into colour; just to denote the time jump. And Cooper's performance and the dialogue were all so mesmerizing to watch.
There had been some backlash with the prosthetic nose that Cooper was wearing. I honestly do not see what the fuss was about. It's for the look, and part of the transformation. Why was it an issue, honestly?
